Huge Microsoft Investment in AI!
26 July 2019
Digital Taxonomy is using advanced AI to help uncover insights locked away in open-ended and unstructured texts. It turns out to be one of the harder tasks that AI is tackling, and we were therefore interested to learn more about this exciting and ambitious news from Microsoft and OpenAI.
OpenAI is an ethical research lab, based in San Francisco, co-founded by Elon Musk. The goal of OpenAI has been to develop Artificial General Intelligence, machines that can tackle a wide range of human-level tasks. They have conducted research and undertaken work that includes designing flexible text-generation systems and setting a benchmark for robot dexterity. Another cool project that OpenAI has successfully completed is teaching AI bots to create their own language to communicate with each other, using reinforcement learning!
OpenAI’s ultimate goal is Artificial General Intelligence. Sam Altman, the CEO of OpenAI, said that “The creation of AGI will be the most important technological development in human history, with the potential to shape the trajectory of humanity.” This monumental task will definitely not be easy though, and everyone working in this fields, us included, will be eagerly awaiting more updates and news on their progress.
Although their task is, clearly, a vastly bigger project than “simply” understanding text, Digital Taxonomy does share things in common with OpenAI. For example, the Microsoft Azure technology powering OpenAI is also our choice for the platform that underpins Codeit – our innovative and powerful platform that combines AI and human judgement to transform unstructured text into actionable insights.
If you read OpenAI’s blog and watch the short video, you’ll see that we’ve chosen well! The rate of innovation is astonishing, and we’ll all undoubtedly benefit from this initiative over the longer term.
Here’s looking forward to the fruits of this massive investment!
